PC Software Download Instructions

USER REQUIREMENTS:   Web Browser (or FTP Client) and an Internet Connection
FTP CLIENT:   The FTP Client can be downloaded free of charge from Ipswitch.com.  Please print these instructions for your reference.

Download Instructions

  1. Connecting to the NFC Home Page and clicking the Download Center button,
    - OR -

  2. Connecting to the FTP site at FTP.NFC.USDA.GOV using a standard GUI or text FTP client.
  3. Follow the download instructions.
  4. Important: Download the selected application's download file from NFC to the application's default drive and directory on your PC or your network. For example, if the default drive and directory for FEDS is C:\FEDS, then download PC-FEDS.EXE from NFC's Download Center to the C:\FEDS directory on your computer.
Special Instructions for Downloading PC-TRVL:

The PC-TRVL download consists of two files which must be downloaded separately into the same destination folder:TRVL108B.exe and TRVL108B.sdf. Once you've downloaded both files to the same folder, you may proceed with the installation.

* When you download PC-TRVL file 2 of 2 (TRVL108B.sdf), your browser may load the file as text into the browser window. If this happens, simply click File > Save As... from your browser window, locate the folder into which you downloaded the TRVL108B.EXE file, and save the ".SDF" file there. For example, if the default drive and directory for PC-TRVL is C:\NFCTRAV, then save the TRVL108B.SDF file into the C:\NFCTRAV directory on your computer.

Installation Instructions

Note: If you are having problems installing this software in Windows, please refer to Using the DOS Prompt.

Using Windows Explorer

  1. Select the application's default directory and double click the application's download file to decompress and unpack the software (e.g., Select the C:\FEDS directory and double click the file named PC-FEDS.EXE).
  2. Double click the installation file named INSTALL.EXE that was extracted into the application's default directory in order to install the software onto your computer or network.
  3. After completing Step 2, run the application to verify installation, communications and security functionality (e.g., Select the C:\FEDS directory and double click the file named FEDS1000.EXE).

Using the "Run" option under Windows

  1. Select Start > Run.
  2. Enter the application's download file and path to decompress and unpack the software (e.g., C:\PRCH\PC-PRCH.EXE, C:\FEDS\PC-FEDS.EXE, etc.).
  3. Enter the application's installation file and path to install the software onto your computer or network (e.g., C:\PRCH\INSTALL.EXE, C:\FEDS\INSTALL.EXE, etc.).
  4. After completing Step 2, run the application to verify installation, communications and security functionality (e.g., C:\PRCH\PRCH1000.EXE, C:\FEDS\FEDS1000.EXE,etc.).

Using the DOS prompt

  1. Restart the computer in DOS by selecting Start > Shut Down > Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode.
  2. At the DOS prompt, change to the application's default directory (e.g., At the C:\FEDS> prompt, type CD FEDS).
  3. At the application's default directory prompt, type the application's download file name to decompress and unpack the software (e.g., At the C:\FEDS> prompt, type PC-FEDS.EXE).
  4. At the application's default directory prompt, enter the application's installation file name to install the software onto your computer or network (e.g., At the C:\FEDS> prompt, type INSTALL.EXE).
  5. After completing Step 4, run the application file to verify installation, communications and security functionality (e.g., At the C:\FEDS> prompt, type FEDS1000.EXE).
